INCA JUNGLE TREK (4 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS)

The Inka Jungle trail can be done in either four or three days and is a mixture of both biking and hiking to Machu Picchu. It is suitable for anyone with a sense of adventure and curiousity.

Price:
$180 adults ($160 for students with ISIC card)
Optional Huayna Picchu entrance fee: $10 If you want it ask about availability and pay at time of booking

Optional bus ticket from Aguas Calientes to MP costs: 8$ each way and both 15.50$ let us know in advance or you can buy it there.

First Day – Cusco to Santa Maria:

inka-jungle-2-cusco-santa-mariaYou will be picked up between 7:45 a 8: am from your hostel. You will then be driven through the stunning Sacred Valley and dropped off at the 3200m high Abra Malaga. Here you will change into the biking kit provided (gloves and helmet) and receive a 20 minute briefing by your tour guide. Then the fun commences... freewheeling down quiet but challenging roads, past changing landscapes, while the jungle´s edge rears up to the small but charming town of Santa Maria. Here you will have lunch at a local restaurant, then buy snacks for the follow day rest your legs and enjoy a cold beer before a dinner. Here you will stay in a family run hostel and sleep in either single, double or triple rooms.*

Ask for the optional rafting tour that will take two hours to do it (level of rapids depends of the season) extra 30 Dollars.

Second Day – Santa María – Santa Teresa:

You will wake up at around 7.00am, shake off your weary limbs and enjoy the finest indigenous coffee prepared by your landlady for a 6.30am breakfast. Under dawn skies you will begin your walk, which gets progressively steeper, until arriving at a welcoming family restaurant in Santa Maria where you can relax in hammocks, admiring the coca plantations and receive refreshments whilst being entertained by the family monkey. After a short walk you will reach a traditional Inca Trail, which winds around precipitous slopes and sheer drops for approximately half a mile. The descent continues for just over two hours until you reach Qellomayo, a small town, where you will have lunch.

From Qellomayo it is a short walk until reaching to Santa Teresa where you will spend the night at another family run hostel and sleep in either single, double or triple rooms*.

Third Day – Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes:

After breakfast you will walk to Colpani taking in the views until you reach the restaurant where you will have lunch at the Hidroelectrica. From here it is only about a two and a half hour flat walk to Aguas Calientes, the base town for Machu Picchu.

Included is dinner at a local restaurant before retiring to your hostel with hot water and private bathrooms. Briefing with the guide

Fourth Day – Machu Picchu:

inka-jungle-4-machu-picchu-toursAn early start today as you will walk to Machu Picchu to arrive at 6 a.m. which with a bit of luck will coincide with a beautiful sunrise! Your guide will leave no stones unturned but feel free to challenge their knowledge of Inca history in your 2 hours tour. Afterwards you have free time to dally with the llamas and show off your photographic skills. Those who still have the will can tackle Huayna picchu we recommend book it in advance.

A frequent bus service takes visitors back to Aguas Calientes, where you will catch the train to Hidroelectrica or Ollantaytambo (times subject to Peru Rail availability) and then the tourist bus (Pedro) to Cusco.

Included:

  • Transport from Cusco to Abra Malaga.

  • Food, from lunch on the first day to breakfast on the last day

The Inca Trail will be closed in February for upkeep and maintenance work

From January 15 to March 31 will run the maintenance and conservation of the Inca trails leading to the citadel of Machu Picchu and, as usual, the access to these trails will be closed to visitors in February, said a regional authority.
"Everything is ready for the hard work of the maintenance of the trail, we have the equipment, tools and materials needed for this work," he said.
