From January 15 to March 31 will run the maintenance and conservation of the Inca trails leading to the citadel of Machu Picchu and, as usual, the access to these trails will be closed to visitors in February, said a regional authority.
"Everything is ready for the hard work of the maintenance of the trail, we have the equipment, tools and materials needed for this work," he said.

"We will establish a strict control of access points located at km 82, 88 and 104 of the railroad, so we have called on tour operators to abide by these restrictions," said Astete.
He also said that the measure will be brought to the attention of all agencies and institutions related to tourism.
The person responsible for the protection of the wonder of the world, that is Machu Picchu, also indicated that in the citadel they have completed the cleanup and maintenance of drainage and treatment of walls, floors and headboards to prevent further damage.
"These maintenance works will help ensure that the heavy rains of this period will not cause damage to the walls and terraces of Machu Picchu," he said.

The director of the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, Fernando Astete, indicated that the maintenance work will be handled by 60 specialists in conservational work.

They will be led by experts from the Regional Directorate of Culture in Cusco on tasks of stabilization and consolidation of the sections of the trail that were impacted by the traffic of visitors, he said.

Furthermore, treatment of damaged floors, arrangement of terraces, camping area maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of drains, cutting of vegetation, maintenance and repainting of control booths and restrooms, among other duties.

Astete stressed that they will provide a "successful and efficient" job in protecting the colossal construction inherited from the Incas.
